Thrive a business of design project I was part of at California College of the Arts. A semester long project with three other teammates Ramune, Chris and wioleta created the thrive sensor and app to help monitor the health of your plants. I was part of the entire process from ideation to execution and prototyping the product.
Thrive is a low cost, low impact, sensor and app that gives your plant a personality and helps you visualize its moisture and light levels. By tracking your plant’s vitals over time, the app helps you gain insight into its needs. The sensor is compatible with all types of plants, so you don’t mistakenly drown your rare Bolivian cactus or undersun your voluptuous Hibiscus acetosella.
Thrive is easy to setup and use:
You can also check the health of your plant at anytime. The Thrive sensor will push its data to your smartphone so you can check your plant’s health on the go. You can even set up weekly alerts to remind you to take a new photo of your plant. On your plant’s birthday, you will get a time-lapse video of its growth that you can share with your friends and family.
The thrive Plant sensor and app helps in connecting people and bringing them closer with nature by stimulating a strong emotional bond between the environment and the customer. We were challenged to raise money to promote our business project on Indigogo. The money which we raised was donated to Architecture for Humanity - a non profit design service that creates sustainable and innovative structures for communities in need worldwide.
